Show Name: Marvel's Agents of Shield (2013-present)
Genre: Action, Drama, Sci-Fi
Run: 2 seasons (44 episodes as of today)

Starting right off where The Avengers movie left off, S.H.I.E.L.D. Phil Coulson handpicks the chosen few, Melinda May, Grant Ward, Skye, Leopold Fitz, and Jemma Simmons, to be part of a small team to fight the dangerous, out-of-this-world beings that threatens Earth. However, S.H.I.E.L.D., the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, must also face threats from within, because what's a super secret government agency without a double agent or two? Meanwhile, there's the Nazi-era organization Hydra that's back at it after its demise! Throughout, there's no secret too dark. No act too impossible.

Even though I'm a little late in watching A.O.S. (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), I binge-watched it this summer and I'm ADDICTED!!! When I watch, it's the can't-sleep-can't eat-can't breathe kind of deal! Because, literally, I can't! If I even look away or blink for a second, I miss out on everything important and get super confused.

So, it's basically an all-consuming kind love-cough-I mean show.

The great thing about this show is that you don't even need to watch the Marvel movies to understand what's going on. I know this first-hand because I didn't and still got what's happening, so don't think you need to watch every all three Iron Man movies and both of The Avengers movies to be up to date (good thing because every movie is like TWO hours long!!!).

A.O.S. is sooooooo good because there's so much going on! The plot is complex and very well thought out. Almost everything is connected in some way and it just keeps piling up. Quite similar to a lasagna I must say. And there are so many twists and turns!! Most you can sense coming, of course, but it's still an OMG moment nonetheless. And the betrayals. How could I forget those? Some strike you deep in the heart because you don't want them to happen, but others make you go YAY! because you didn't like that person very much anyway.

People probably really love this because it makes it all the more exciting but I hate them: cliffhangers! And on A.O.S., it's cliffhangers galore. They just cut you off and leave you hanging without a care in the world. Oh the misery. I don't know how I'll do it when I watch week-to-week.

Well, enough about the story! It's characters time! And I have to say that I love that there's no one, but TWO Asians (non-Indian ones although I'm not discriminating) on this show: Melinda May and Skye. Well, Skye's a technicality really because she's half but her real last name is Wang (it's Asian-ness is undeniable). But they're both pretty and aren't portrayed as complete nerds/shy girls/repressed in outdated clothing. So all the better!

The one thing that this show is lacking in is romance! Like oh my lord, could it be more subtle or nonexistent? At first, I wanted Grant and Skye to get together because what's to hate about an enemies-to-lovers romance? It was obvious Grant liked her too because he was picking on her like a bully to a girl he likes. In the end though, I knew it just wasn't meant to be. Now, I want Skye to be with Lincoln, a newcomer. And I love Lincoln! Not only is he like Skye, he's also from the show H20: Just Add Water, which was the best.

Now, let's get to Fitz-Simmons. They're SO cute together! Both oblivious to how perfect they would be together, it's only a viewer's dream until Fitz took the plunge. However, there's always something in the way of these two getting together. It sucks because they' were this close, this close to admitting their feelings/going out and then KABOOM. The world is about to end or they on the brink of death. It just SUCKS!

Regardless, the show is really good! And at least we have something to root for because the push-and-pull aspect is way more fun than the honeymoon phase. Blechh!

Enjoy!!!
Characters:

Phil Coulson: Phil Coulson is the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. He died but was brought back to life through Project T.A.H.I.T.I. Coulson is a good person as well as a good leader; he takes on Skye, who he treats like a daughter, and respects everyone's skills on the team. He's really secretive but that's just the cycle of things since he's not top dog; Fury is.

Melinda May: Melinda May is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent as well as the team's pilot. Her nickname is "The Calvary" because she always comes in to save them since she's a kickbutt fighter and super talented with hand-to-hand combat and weapons. Much of, well basically all of, Agent May's past is unknown because she's extremely tight-lipped in most situations and all concerning her personal life. She pretty much defines silent but deadly.

Grant Ward: Grant Ward is really serious and all about the rules. He's rough around the edges because he experienced an abusive childhood by the hands of his brothers. Ward is determined to move up in S.H.I.E.L.D. to of course betray them because he's a traitor. Like HOW COULD HE?!?!!? The betrayal. It hurts so bad!!!

Skye: Skye is a hacker who has a real knack for computers. She's so good that she got through S.H.I.E.L.D.'s firewall, even though it's a super secret government agency! Coulson takes her on and she becomes part of team, helping them handle out of this world cases. Because she's an orphan, she has no last name, kind of like Madonna or Beyoncé. Skye is mixed and I think she's really pretty! She has both good and evil inside so it's hard for her to make the right decision at times.

Leo Fitz: One-half of the Fitz-Simmons duo, Fitz is an engineer who is particularly talented at weapons technology, but he also knows his way around electricity among other things. Fitz is passionate about what he does and is always determined to do things right and to get things done, sometimes unleashing his anger when he's in a bit of a brain block. His best friend is Jemma Simmons and his favorite sandwich is prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella with a hint of homemade pesto aioli. BTW, he's Scottish!

Jemma Simmons: Jemma Simmons is the other half of the Fitz-Simmons duo and has two PhD's in the biological sciences. She is a biochemist who specializes in both humans and aliens for S.H.I.E.L.D. Simmons is hardworking, dedicated, and likes to takes risks. She joined S.H.I.E.L.D. to experience the real world and has shown that she has real brawn to accompany her huge brain. She reminds a lot of Emma Watson as Hermione Granger in Harry Potter. And it's not just the British accent talking!
