Criminal turned Robin Hood? Is that Raymond Reddington? Nah. No. 4 on the FBI's Most Wanted List turned FBI informant with his own agenda? That's more like it! In a mutually beneficial relationship, Raymond Reddington and the FBI team up to take down the world's most notorious criminals as part of The Blacklist. DUN DUN DUUUN! However, Reddington will only communicate with rookie agent Elizabeth Keen for reasons unknown. Together, they take down the criminals. One by one.
Lisamentary:
After the end of binge-watching Grey's Anatomy, my sister and I had a five-day slump where we had absolutely nothing to watch! Nada! Nothing at all! We were so sad and without. However, when I stumbled upon The Blacklist, we were hooked!!
The first episode was a perfect pilot episode because it packed it big punch! Enough was revealed for things to make sense but most of it was left a mystery. For instance, after 20 years on the run, Reddington gave up himself to the Feds. But why? He's willing to give up names on The Blacklist. But why? Most importantly, he's only willing to work with Elizabeth (Liz). But why? So many things left unknown…
Sigh.
I guess that's its charm because this show is SUPER good. One of the main reasons is the type of criminals on The Blacklist (the real one, not the show). That is because the criminals they catch are definitely off their rocker and the reasons why they're on that list will blow your mind. Most of them do what they do for money, of course, but those who don't? Let's just say be nice to everyone. You never know who'll turn homicidal and come back to avenge themselves by killing. So watch yo' back!
Also, there are a lot of twists and turns in this show. You think one thing is going to happen and it does. But then, something ELSE else happens that you totally did not expect and you're like, "Hold up! That did not just happen!" Like what the heck, so out of the blue. So out of the blue.
Although the plot is great, my favorite part of the show is most definitely the characters. Of course, my favorite character has to be Red! Because, how can you not love Red?!? Sure, he does some bad things but that doesn't make him a bad person. He's actually a really good person and cares so much about Liz, Dembe, and other people he loves.
Another thing I really like is that he isn't crazy impulsive. He isn't one to jump in the face of danger without knowing he can defend himself and/or save the person at risk. Unlike other characters I know…Ughh, so annoying! He's also really sarcastic and usually gets the last word. His quips give me the chuckles.
Once you watch you can't help but love Red. He comes off like a grizzly bear but he's more like the cute teddy bears you cuddle. And he has a striking resemblance to Paddington the Bear I must say.
Don't cha think? It's uncanny!
I like all the characters on this show really. The team work really well together and have each other's back. They'd stick their necks for each other even if it takes breaking the law. Now that's true loyalty right there. Also, now that Ressler doesn't have this obvious animosity for Liz and Red, all the relationships are pretty good. So good that they're starting to heat up. (Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink.)
This show isn't exactly what I'd call a romance because it's pretty paltry at best. When I watched the first episode and saw Liz and Tom together, I immediately went, "They MUST stay together!" This is because the couples you see starting out usually don't stay with each other throughout the show and they seemed so good for each other. Then, we were introduced to Ressler and I was worried that he'd be a threat to their relationship, but he's totally not because he doesn't even like Liz in the beginning.
However, Tom isn't the average fourth grade elementary school teacher, so now Team Ressler all the way! This is because Liz always goes to Ressler for comfort and it's so cute. They're partners too so they could always be together just like Booth and Bones on Bones. So yeah, I wasn't too "keen" on them together earlier, but now I am totally shipping them!
And I hope to get more on Aram and Samar.
The Blacklist is FUN FUN FUN. And is has lots of DUN DUN DUUUN (moments)! There's so much left to fate, well to Reddington because to him, mum's the word! Like how are Reddington and Liz connected? What's going to happen to Tom? What's up with Liz's past?
I can't wait for the next season to come out, especially now that Liz is on the run and Dembe has been promoted to a regular. Exciting or what?!!?
Season 3 just premiered so don't forget to watch!!
Enjoy!!!
Characters:
Raymond Reddington: Raymond Reddington was an Admiral in the U.S., working counterintelligence, until he went dark one Christmas. Twenty years later, Raymond Reddington willingly gets himself captured to get the FBI to work with, giving them names of criminals to catch. He has this secret interest/connection to Elizabeth Keen that just makes people wonder. Red always has a secret agenda and usually has a card up his sleeve that can one up nearly everyone. Red is one of my favorite characters because even though he acts tough, he's got a soft spot for Liz.
Elizabeth Keen: Whether she's Elizabeth, Liz, or Lizzie, Elizabeth Keen is a new FBI profiler who was specially requested by Raymond Reddington to work with him. She doesn't know much about her childhood because of a horrific fire, but she has a scar for a souvenir. She's happily married to Tom but also very dedicated to her work. Liz is smart, caring, and, of course, brave.
Donald Ressler: Donald Ressler is a FBI agent who works alongside Elizabeth. He likes to go by the book and that's why he distrusts Reddington and Liz so much. Ressler wasn't my favorite at first, but he really grew on me (even if he's poppin' pills now)!
Tom Keen: Tom Keen is Liz's husband and a fourth grade teacher. He is portrayed as extremely caring, kind, and loving. He's patient with Liz and her job and fully supports her in her decision in wanting to adopt rather than have children of their own. Tom is much more than meets the eye. Because when he whips his glasses off, everything is not so hunky-dory anymore.
Aram Mojtabai: Aram Mojtabai is a computer genius/technician and hacker of sorts for the FBI. He's also used to work for the NSA. Aram is not good with the guns part of Reddington's operation and is rather shy to violence. He's really smart, kind, and just wants to help! He doesn't say much, but he's a great character.
Meera Malik: Meera Malik is a CIA agent that was assigned to Reddington's case in order to please Diane Fowler. She's British and is actually the main girl from the movie Bend It Like Beckham. That made me like her so much more so it was sad the way things panned out for her.
Harold Cooper: Harold Cooper is the head of the secret task force for Reddington. He really cares about his team and is a good leader.
Samar Navabi: Samar Navabi is a secret agent from Iran (and is basically Meera Malik's replacement). She's in cahoots with Reddington for an unknown reason. Of course. Part of being a secret agent is being at good at keeping secrets! She assists the FBI by being their interrogator.
Dembe Zuma: Dembe Zuma is Reddington's right hand man; he's everything from his bodyguard to his driver. Dembe may be Reddington's closest confidant and friend due to their intertwined past. I love Dembe because he's so loyal to Red and is always watching out for his six. It would devastate me if he turned his back on Red or worse, died.
