Blurb:

For Sophie, it feels like another slow, hot summer in Cedar Hill, waitressing at her family's diner and hanging out with her best friend, Millie. But then someone movies into the long-abandoned mansion up the block--a family of five Italian brothers, each one hotter than the last.

Powerless to resist honey-eyed Nicoli, Sophie finds herself falling for him--and willfully ignoring the warning signs. Why are Nic's knuckles always cut and bruised? Why does he carry a monogrammed knife? And why does his arrogant and infuriating older brother refuse to let her see him? Whatever questions she asks, the answer is alays the same: "La famiglia prima di tutto--family above all."

And as the boys' dark secrets begin to come to light, Sophie is confronted with stinging truths about her own family, too. Suddenly, she's torn between two warring dynasties: the one she's related to and the one she's now in love with. She'll have to choose between loyalty and passione. When she does, blood will spill, hearts will break. Because in this twisted underworld, dishonor can meant he difference between life and death.

Lisamentary:

In YA, I haven't come across many crime books of this type! This being about the mafia made it so much better because it reminded me of history class and the movie The Godfather, which is a classic as well as a mobster movie. The closest I came to one I think was Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles where the main love interest was in a gang. (Btw, that book is really good, too!!!) That's why I was so excited to find Vendetta because it's nice to have a little breather between all the romance and fantasy novels.

Sorry for that long intro! Anyway, this book was super good! When this book first came out, I put it off for some time because I hate love triangles and absolutely abhor them between brothers; this is why I can't get myself to watch The Vampire Diaries, Milla's favorite show. Also, I knew that this series was set to be a trilogy, like all book series out there, so I didn't want to be left hanging, ya' know? But shucks because I read it anyway and the next book is not out until 2016!!!! Well, you can't rewrite the past so here I am…waiting…and waiting…

Plot-wise, this book was spot on because it was filled with the perfect mixture of romance and mystery. The book is thrilling and tense, yet sweet at the same time. From the gecko, the Falcones brothers are such an enigma; no one knows anything about them and, of course, they have to take residence in the creepiest house in town. Sophie's meeting Nic in the dark and his chasing after her really amped up the mysterious feel they had going on in the beginning. Well, that and the brother staring out through the upstairs window. Can you say creepy? However, it wasn't only the brothers who were the only mysterious ones out of the bunch!! Sophie too! Especially with her incarcerated father and her ghost of an uncle. Like, what's up with that? When you find out, it's not that surprising but DAMN! It's BIG. Overall, the book was a fast-paced, action-packed, and terrific!! Every development added to the mystery and dramatics and made this book that much more intriguing.

The most intense for me may be after Sophie is kidnapped. There, we find out who the Boss is!! I'm not going to lie but I was sweating just a bit. It was scary even though I was the one making the scenes up in my head. Your mind really is your worst enemy! I won't spoil it but you must read to know.

Let's move on to the book's better half: the romance!!! YAY!! Even though the book is set to have the romance between Sophie and Nic be its main focus, I am ALL for SOPHIE AND LUCA!!! I just don't feel the chemistry between Sophie and Nic. For them, it was wham, bam, insta-love!! And I just don't believe in love at first sight, especially between these two. They seem very platonic and familial despite Nic seeming to be really into Sophie and vice versa for Sophie, but that's only until she meets Luca. So yeah, not a fan because I'm rooting for Luca. And I know this is kind of off-topic, but I think it'd be so much better if Nic's name was Nico instead. It just sounds Italian, no?

Why am I rooting for Luca you may ask? It's because when Sophie and Luca are together, there are fireworks! It's not Romeo and Juliet, who "love" each other so much they die for each other; that's Nic and Sophie right there if they go down that rabbit hole. Sophie and Luca have love-hate relationship where there's great banter and fun! When they get together, they can become the best crime couple the world has ever seen!! And how can you not love Luca? He gave her his monogrammed knife for God's sake!! Like come on!! Also, he jumped in front of a bullet to save Sophie's mom. That's real love right there! They just don't know it yet. SOPHIE AND LUCA FOR THE WIN!!!

As I was reading it, it hardly seemed like a love triangle because Luca acts very disinterested, which was a HUGE plus for the book. Not for long though because if this author goes along with the trilogy formula, Sophie and Luca's relationship is going to heat up a lot in the second book, Inferno. Can't wait!!

I definitely recommend this book!! It's romantic as well as thrilling. The mystery sucks you in until the very last word. It's fun and would be an amazing movie!!

Enjoy!!!

And if you like this book, don't forget to read these to help the time pass by faster until Inferno comes out!
