Blurb:

Farrah "Digit" Higgins may be going to MIT in the fall, but this L.A. high school genius has left her geek elf behind in another school district so she can blend in with the popular crowd at Santa Monica High and actually enjoy her senior year. But when Farrah, the daughter UCLA math professor, unknowingly cracks a terrorist group's number sequence, her laid-back senior year gets a lot more interesting. Soon she is personally investigating the case, on the run from terrorists, and faking her own kidnapping--all while trying to convince a young, hot FBI agent to take her seriously. So much for blending in…

Lisamentary:

This book has been on my TBR pile and I haven't gotten around to reading it until this past Thanksgiving break when I finally had some me-time (this was in-between the time of college apps). Since reading Matilda as a child, I've always been obsessed with prodigal children and teens. So, of course, Farrah Higgins, better known as Digit, is the perfect fit. She's mathematical genius. No duh! She is going to MIT.

Also, her dad is a math professor at UCLA. (Since my sister is attending UCLA, books with UCLA in it has been strangely appealing as well. The mere exposure effect I suppose? HAHAHA! Oh, psychology.)

A Girl Named Digit is extremely fast to read; it is both good and fast-paced as well as less than 200 pages long. There is a lot of action and quite frankly it reminds me a lot of Chuck, but the girl version of course.

The characters in the book is very likable, starting with Farrah. Really, Farrah is a regular teen other than being blessed/burdened with being a mathematical genius and having to suppress her greatness from the world to have friends. (But seriously, who doesn't want to be a genius?) Also, she goes with her gut and is just a teen having her first crack at love with a FBI  agent, John Bennett, who is old enough for their relationship to raise red flags concerning statutory rape.

So yeah, the age issue makes their relationship a little iffy, but it's ok. They don't cross the line or anything and they seem like a great match for each other. Because little did I know, John is genius in his own right, graduating early and attending Princeton. Wow, right?

They're so cute together, fighting crime as a couple side-by-side, like the teenage version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, but with less betrayal and more teen infatuation. John even calls Farrah Digit, which really only her little brother Danny calls her.

Besides, the two main characters, Farrah's and John's dads are wonderful as well. John's dad, especially, because he's so funny and is basically the wiser version of John. As for Farrah's dad, it's obvious that he cares so much for Farrah and wants her to have a regular teenage experience. He even bans her from attending his math lectures at UCLA, so that she can try to be as "normal" as possible, when all he wants is to speak geeky math stuff with her. Farrah's mother is a quite a character too! She acts kind of like a dumb blonde, but she's not.

I particularly enjoy the crime aspect of this novel, with all the math speak included. Surprisingly, I recognized many of the things they were talking about in the novel. However, truthfully, I wouldn't be able to figure a thing out. (Sigh.)

Overall, the book is really fun and fast! The characters are great and the plot is well-thought out. I'm glad I chose to finally read this book, so go read, read, read!

Enjoy!!

P.S.
Merry Christmas Eve/Happy Holidays, everyone!!
