Bones in a Nutshell

Show Name: Bones (2005-present)
Genre: Crime, Comedy, Drama, Mystery
Run: 10 seasons (208 episodes as of today)
Running Time: 43 minutes
Network: Fox

Based off Kathy Reich's book series, Bones follows Temperance "Bones" Brennan, a forensic anthropologist, and Seeley Booth, an FBI agent, as they work together alongside the Jeffersonian team to solve murder cases in and around Washington D.C. Lending their scientific knowledge, Bones and the rest of the team receive the nickname "squints" by Booth because they always squint at the remains. Usually, the show has episodes-long arcs of serial murderers to accompany the everyday crimes. Beyond the crime solving and action, it also focuses on the relationships that develop among the team, including Booth, and their families.

Even though I'm not caught up as of late, Bones is a must watch, highly recommended show from me, especially if you're looking for a good mix of crime and drama with a little dark humor. However, be warned, if you easily get queasy, Bones may not be the show for you because the remains and the crime scenes often get pretty graphic, so it is not best to eat dinner while watching if you know what I mean.

My favorite character on this show would have to be Bones herself because she is wicked smart yet still has a naiveté about life. All of the characters are pretty great actually and the add a lot of dimension to the show.

The crimes are really interesting too!! But sometimes, the murderers are really scary that they just haunt you in your sleep. One of the serial murders, the Gravedigger, gave me nightmares for four months!! FOUR MONTHS!! I was so scared that I couldn't allow my feet to poke out of my blanket because I was terrified she was going to grab them and pull me to my death (sometimes I even had to sleep with my sister). So yeah, it gets pretty intense. It's because the crazies look so normal you'd never suspect them and that's what makes them so frightening. Like ughh, it gives me the shivers just thinking about that dark period.

Anyway, it's pretty great but if you don't trust me, it just got renewed for its ELEVENTH season.

Characters:

Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan: Bones is the head forensic anthropologist at the Jeffersonian and an author in her spare time. She is simply put brilliant but also rational and emotionally-contained character. She is so confident in her intelligence that she sometimes comes off as conceited, but she really does know her facts. However, she sometimes seems insensitive and detached, making it hard for her to get close to people. Bones is also an atheist and relies on logic and reason, thus not believing in psychology, which puts her at odds with Booth and Sweets often.

Seeley Booth: Most often referred to as Booth, he was once a sniper in the military and is now an FBI agent. He and Bones are very different in how he relies on his instincts and is easily capable of relating to others. He is street smart and is also religious. He has a son named Parker from a previous relationship with a woman named Rebecca. Booth is also distantly related John Wilkes Booth, President Abraham Lincoln's assassin, and is deeply ashamed of that fact since he is very patriotic, thus does not like to discuss his lineage.

Angela Montenegro: Angela Montenegro is forensic artist at the Jeffersonian who is skilled at recreating faces, scenes of the crime, and the weapons used for murder cases. She is also Brennan's best friend and helps her understand life and its many complexities. Angela is sweet, caring, kind, and a free spirit, having grown up with a musician for a father. She has thing for dating younger men, mainly Bones' interns.

Dr. Jack Hodgins: Hodgins is an entomologist who specializes in studying bugs and plants to help build the murder cases. He likes to experiment a lot and do crazy things to get results. Hodgins also likes to come up with a lot of conspiracy theories in his free time. He comes from a wealthy family, which he does not disclose early on.

Dr. Camille Saroyan: Typically called Cam, Dr. Saroyan is a pathologist and is essentially the boss at the Jeffersonian Institute. She is strong-willed, like Bones, which causes tension when working together at times. Before working together, she shared a romantic history with Booth. She also has a daughter named Michelle.

Dr. Lance Sweets: Called Sweets, he is a psychologist who works for the FBI by profiling prospective murders. In the beginning, he is dismissed and not well-respected by some of the team due to his age and by Bones because of him being a psychologist, which she doesn't consider a legitimate science. He often psychoanalyzes Booth and Brennan, much to their annoyance, however, they both grow to love him.
