Grey's Anatomy in a Nutshell

Show Name: Grey's Anatomy (2005-present)
Genre: Drama, Romance
Run: 11 seasons (244 episodes as of today)
Running Time: 43 minutes
Network: ABC

Being a surgeon at Seattle Grace Hospital is basically going back to high school. You've got the eager over-achiever, Cristina Yang; the model-type blonde, Izzie Stevens; the dorky softball, George O'Malley; the cocky, overconfident Alex Karev; and the talented Meredith Grey. And that's just a fraction of the population. Full of drama, mischief, and romantic affairs, Seattle Grace isn't your average hospital. It's better.

Millamentary:

I love this show so freaking much!!! There's just so much drama, humor, romance—basically everything I love!!!

Grey's Anatomy obviously uses a bunch of medical jargon because it is a medical drama, but don't let that scare you off. As you watch more episodes, you'll start to get the medical terms and procedures. Fortunately, I took anatomy last year, so it made it even easier for me to understand their medical talk. So shout-out to Ms. Weiman!! :)

Character development is one thing this show definitely knows how to do. So when characters come and go on the show (sadly), it's not without some water works. I mean, you think someone's a main character, but then they just up and leave the show. Just like that—written off. But it's kind of a nice change of pace if you know what I mean. But definitely very bittersweet. Even the patients have good background stories! Y'know a lot of patients are played by actors I recognize from other TV shows, so that's always fun to see!

I really love the light and playful atmosphere in the show!!! It throws a little happy and mischief in the mix of all that tragedy and heartbreak. Speaking of tragedies and heartbreak, I hate when the characters (especially Cristina) cry!!! Some of them (especially Cristina) have the worst cries ever!

The episodes are just so addicting. I love the humor. Almost every single episode has a scene (or more) where you'll find me laughing like a idiot. The cliff-hangers are perfection!!! They always leave you wanting more, and because I binge-watched Grey's, I was able to get more!!! Yay, me!!

The only thing I regret was that I didn't watch Grey's sooner... I mean, I couldn't watch it fast enough! In my calculations, I should've been caught up in three weeks and one day. Y'know, if I was really good. But I got a little lazy since season 8 wasn't as good, so I finished watching it in four weeks instead of three.

The score is also really good! I mean, it just totally sets the mood.

Well, I don't want to make this Millamentary too long because then I'll be more inclined to majorly spoil something, and I wouldn't want to do that, now would I. I really, really hope you enjoy Grey's Anatomy as much as Lisa and I do!!!

P.S. This show is so fan-freaking-tastic that it makes me want to be a surgeon sometimes. And once you're done with it, it'll probably make you want to be one too!!

Lisamentary:

Oh, Grey's Anatomy, I'm so glad I stuck it out because after the first episode I was like NO MORE!!!! This is because I hated both Meredith and Derek who I knew were going to be the main characters. For Meredith, I was like girl, have some respect and stop pining after a married man. Her famous line is:

And Derek, stop flirting and keep your hands to yourself or just get a divorce. Simple. You don't have to make it so difficult! Also, Derek was always playing favorites with Meredith, which was really annoying because I liked the other interns way, waaayyyyyy more than I liked Meredith. This lasted until like the fourth season when they, as in Meredith and Derek, finally got together and I went HALLELUJAH!!! THANK YOU, JESUS!!

Other than that though, I love Grey's Anatomy!! It's super dramatic and fast pace and has LOADS of romance. Life is never boring at the hospital because there's always something going on, whether it be personal or professional because these people are CRAY and can't keep it in their pants. But it's not like they have that many options since they can either date people in the hospital or be lonely; they have like no downtime. So, I understand and totally love when the couple I'm shipping gets together. Or else, what's the point??

And being a medical drama and all, there's of course a bunch of dark humor, mostly spouting from Cristina's mouth. This is a definite plus because in this show miracles barely happen and when it does, it's to make the surgeons look better, not for the patients' health. So, people die left and right! Have your tissues ready because some of the deaths really hit you hard. Not that I ever cried or anything but it's pretty sad.

If one character gets boring, it's out with the old and in with the new. This is usually not the case since the actor just wants to leave and do something else. Nonetheless, it is really sad because you eventually grow to like, if not love, everybody and it sucks when they leave. It was the worst when Lexi and Mark left because they never really had a chance to be together together and now they won't ever. I loved them together so much!!! And who doesn't love Mark, especially when he speaks Spanish to Sofia? So funny! HAHAHAHAHA

The worst of the worst was Cristina for sure. No doubt about it. This is because from the first episode she was my fave character and the reason I pushed through. She made me grow to like Meredith because they're each other's "person." It's so sweet. And then Cristina leaves and Alex becomes her person.

The bottom line now is that I can't watch the show without Alex and Bailey. Besides Meredith and Richard, they are the only main cast left. And what's a show without Alex and Bailey because who cares about Meredith? Just kidding, she's better now! Also, a shoutout to Addison and Teddy because I loved them when they were on the show. Good thing Addison got her own show, Private Practice.

Anyhow, I'm just thankful that I watched it all at once because I wouldn't be able to handle the cliffhangers. A whole week of waiting? That's too much for me.

I'm an addict. A Grey's addict. I admit it!!

And like Milla said, this show does make you want to be a surgeon because how cool is it to save people's lives with your bare (gloved) hands? It made me want to be a surgeon for some time until I thought about the bazillion years in school, interning, and then residency to become a surgeon much less an attending or chief of your specialty. Also, the lawsuits for malpractice and wrongful death are bitter and really depressing.

Even if you don't aspire to be a surgeon, you learn a bunch from this show just watching, with or without prior knowledge. Also, there's no shortage of good acting, just good crying. These people are a family and I just love them and this show so much!! It's like a primetime telenovela but in inglés!

Last thing, their anthem should totally be "How to Save a Life" by The Fray, which is really funny in the musical episode because they just burst out singing out of nowhere (I linked that here). However, it's PERFECTION when someone kicks the bucket! PERFECTION!!

Enjoy!!
Characters:

Meredith Grey: Not really sure how to describe Meredith (Although she is my fave!! -M) She's kind of a difficult person. She definitely has some serious drama in her life and describes to herself as "dark and twisty." However, despite Meredith's dark and twisty-ness, she's beloved by many in the hospital, she's talented, and she also knows how to have fun (mostly with her BFF tequila).

Cristina Yang: Cristina's the smart one. And the overconfident one. And the mean one. And the braggy one. And basically "the one who thinks she's the best" one. There's no one who loves surgery more than she. She's what they call a "surgical junkie." She's so sarcastic and mean, it's hilarious!

Izzie Stevens: Izzie's a former model. What? A model turned doctor? Well, Izzie became model to pay off her med school debts, so kudos to her. She's free! And quite the optimist. If "Katherine" wasn't already her middle name, it'd be "optimistic." Definitely full of happy which contributes to her great beside manner.

Alex Karev: Alex aka "Evil Spawn." He's definitely a player, but gives up his playing days when he meets a certain someone!! Although Alex acts like an ass to everyone he meets, he's actually a nice guy. Y'know, a nice guy who spontaneously yells at people. Alex has quite the temper, but most of the time he's pretty tolerable. (One of my faves!! -M)

George O'Malley: It's no secret George is in love with Meredith. Unfortunately, Meredith's eye lies somewhere else. Because let's face it, George is kind of a dork. He has a very dorky personality, but he was also kind and loyal. And just because it didn't work out with Mer doesn't mean he didn't find love elsewhere!!

Miranda Bailey: Bailey's tough as a bag of nails. They don't call her "The Nazi" for nothing. She's also straightforward, blunt. But she does have a good side. She's cares about her patients and has a good heart.

Richard Webber: Richard is the chief of surgery at Seattle Grace. He's a father figure to Meredith. He's usually very kind and playful, but can put his foot down when he needs to.

Preston Burke: Burke is head of cardio-thoracic surgery at Seattle Grace. And well, there's not really have much to say about him other than he's an over-achiever. He strives to be the best.

Derek Shepherd: Derek aka McDreamy. He's the head of neurosurgery at Seattle Grace and is known for his great hair, which personally isn't even that great. He has quite the complicated love life, y'know, being married and having an affair with an intern...Oh, if only it was that simple.

Addison Montgomery: Addison is Derek's wife and a neonatal surgeon at Seattle Grace. She leaves the show after season three for Private Practice, a spin off of Grey's. Her voice is really nasal, but her personality is so confident and fierce!!

Mark Sloan: Mark Sloan is Derek's best friend as well as the Addison's "dirty mistress." When he comes to Seattle Grace as the Chief of Plastic Surgery, he is nicknamed McSteamy by the interns. Mark is a bit of a showboat, but he is also very funny, caring, and just a little lost. He is very playful and comes up with the name "The Plastics Posse" for him and Avery.

Callie Torres: Callie Torres is an orthopedic surgeon at Seattle Grace. In the beginning, she dates and marries George O'Malley only for him to cheat on her. This cycle of her getting cheated on repeats with her following love interests, both male and female since she's bisexual. Callie is strong-willed and has an adventurous spirit, giving her a great personality.

Lexie Grey: Lexie Grey is Meredith Grey's long lost half-sister through their dad, Thatcher. Lexie is very sweet and a perfectionist. She also has a photographic memory, earning her the name "Lexipedia" as well as helping her skip several grades. Her and Meredith's relationship got off on a rocky start but they became closer over time. Mark Sloan and the other staff call her "Little Grey" to differentiate between her and Meredith, "Big Grey." (I thinks she looks like Demi Lovato with her long hair!! BTW, LEXIE IS THE BEST -M)

Owen Hunt: Owen Hunt served in the U.S. Army as a trauma surgeon before taking a job at the Seattle Grace as the Head of Trauma Surgery. Hunt suffers from PTSD from the war, which is portrayed on the show. He acts quick in both his professional and personal life, sometimes raising concern from his colleagues for his unorthodox teaching methods. Right off the bat, he begins a relationship with Cristina.

Arizona Robbins: Arizona Robbins is the pediatric surgery attending at Seattle Grace. Arizona is a very happy, cheerful person who loves working with the children in her unit, whom she refers to as "little humans." At first, Arizona was not taken seriously because she looked young and liked to travel using her roller shoes. She likes things done her way and is difficult when people challenge her. She's also a lesbian.

Teddy Altman: With the Heads of Cardio dropping like flies at Seattle Grace Mercy West, Owen Hunt, whom she served with in Iraq, recruited Teddy to be the Head of Cardiothoracic. She puts strain on Owen's relationship with Cristina by confessing to Owen that she loves him. Initially, Cristina didn't respect Teddy but eventually grew to love Teddy.

Jackson Avery: Jackson Avery is one of the new residents that come to Seattle Grace Mercy West after the merger. He is the pretty boy of the group and constantly feels like he has something to prove because of his good looks and him being the grandson of Harper Avery. He likes to use his good looks to his advantage and is a bit of a flirt. However, he's also known as Angry Avery because temper temper.

April Kepner: April Kepner is another one of the new residents that came after the merger. She was fired from the hospital for killing a patient but was rehired after Owen became Chief of Surgery. April is very type A and is accused of having a stick up her you-know-where since she's a stickler for the rules. Privately, April is a devout Christian; as is why she was a 28 year old virgin.

Ben Warren: Ben Warren is an anesthesiologist that came after the merger. Unlike most of the staff, Ben doesn't let Bailey boss him around and likes to challenge her. He is a confident man who knows what he wants and what he wants is Bailey and he gets her! For some time, he leaves Seattle to become a surgical intern at UCLA, straining his and Bailey's relationship.

Amelia Shepherd: Amelia Shepherd is Derek's younger sister. Amelia, like Meredith, is a little messed up inside, being a recovering drug addict and all. Well, that and her fiancé dying on her as well as her baby. She hates being babied by Derek who constantly treats her as his little sister rather than his equal since she's a neurosurgeon, too. Guess being brainy runs in the family! Unlike Derek, however, Amelia is a wild child!

Jo Wilson: Jo Wilson is part of new batch of interns that come around in season 9. Even though Jo seems like rich gal, she was actually really poor in her teens and lived out of her car for some time. In the beginning, Alex calls her "princess" to antagonize her, but they become best friends later. As pretty as she is, Jo knows how to deliver a real beat down--just ask her ex-OB boyfriend.

Stephanie Edwards: Stephanie Edwards is another one of the new interns. She was dubbed Grumpy by Cristina because she always looks angry or upset.

Maggie Pierce: Maggie Pierce is the offspring of Ellis Grey and Richard's sordid affair, thus Meredith's half-sister. She's really smart and skipped a few grades, getting her the job of Chief of Cardio at Grey Sloan Memorial even though she's younger than Meredith, who's an attending. Her relationship with Meredith was extremely strained until Meredith warmed up to her.
