Apparently, January 7 as the release date is for UK and this book will not be published in America until the end of this year or next year even. However, all is well because I ordered it on Amazon and have finally gotten my hands on this God-sent book.
Inferno picks up right where Vendetta ended, and it picks up pretty fast. Sophie's life is thrust into chaos now after that fight between her uncle, Jack, and the Falcones. Sophie doesn't want to talk to either Luca or Nic, being that she's traumatized over the whole ordeal. All Sophie would like is some peace, but that doesn't work out well for her because there's a new mafia in town, the Marinos. The Falcones and the Marinos are rivals, and Jack has just made an alliance with the Marinos for protection.
This puts Sophie between a rock and a hard place because Jack is family and the Marinos are threatening her mom's life if she doesn't do their bidding. However, she has a tie to the Falcones that trusts more as she the Marinos are known to be shady. All along the way, Sophie has the support of her best friend Millie that I feel is a great comic relief for such an intense novel. Also, I love Millie because she's such a great friend who is both dependable and understanding. Too bad Dom wasn't smart enough to catch her up when he had the change. His loss!
As the tension builds up between the two rival mafia families, Sara Marino is introduced. She is a hopeful teenage girl (Sophie's age or younger I'd say) who is too innocent for the life of crime. She's a dreamer and hopeful, but it's obvious she can't/won't escape her fate. Sara is a sweet girl, and I really loved her. She is one of those characters that are gone too soon; I wished her storyline hadn't turned out the way it had, but at least it opened Sophie's eyes to the truth of the matter.
As the summary hints, Sophie is in deeper than she thinks on both sides. I don't want to give any spoilers, but I'd say it's pretty obvious Sophie's connection to the Marinos by the phrase "her blood in another direction." Like Bella from Twilight, Sophie is just a magnet for trouble, even though she desperately wants to avoid.
I hate that at the end, Sophie has lost everything that truly matters to her. However, this gives her the strength to do what has to be done to finally finish this blood feud.
This book shows that Nic and Sophie don't have a future together, and it's evident through Nic knowing himself to be just a "Falcone." The mafia is his life, while for Luca, he wants more than that for his future. This gives him a deeper connection to Sophie that is predictable from the first book. Nic lacks the depth necessary to be a main character, and his heartlessness towards Sara confirms that he is as expected and nothing more.
Sophie and Luca had many cute moments in this book. The donut scene was great and there is much confirmation that the feelings are mutual. I love how Luca is always looking out for Sophie and standing up for her in front of his family, even to his mom, Elena.
The plot moves quickly and I came to love some of the characters even more. The book is dramatic and unlike other trilogies is not a plot filler until the next book. There is no doubt that this book should be read, and I CAN'T wait for the next book.
With an ending like this:
"I don't want to be a Marino, Luca."
"Then be something else."
"Any suggestions?"
"I can think of one."
How can I be patient? I can feel their chemistry. They should get married already to make it official. Ughh, my heart!
Enjoy!!!
